And now for something completely different

Welcome 2010.

2009 had to have been the worst year of my life. It was indescribably bad. My husband, 12-yr old son and I spend more than 15 months (yes, reaching back to 2008 even) 3500 miles apart. Not because we wanted to but because we had to, for a variety of reasons that are ultimately, unimportant.

With the advent of the new year we decided to take stock of what was left and challenged ourselves to do something(s) to recharge and renew ourselves and our relationship. We ended up deciding to climb Mt. Washington - in the White Mountains of New Hampshire... Mt. Washington - with it's lovely dramatic scenery, ski resort towns, woodland trails, waterfalls, and wildlife. Mt. Washington - with the claim to fame, from their Observatory website is "Home to the World's Worst Weather."

Oh but that is not the end of this story. We decided that we would climb Mt. Washington - "Home to the World's Worst Weather" once each month this year (2010) and that we would attempt to reach the summit 12 consecutive times.

That's where this blog comes in... we want to keep a record of our planning, training efforts and then our attempts on the mountain. When the going gets rough we want to be able to remember exactly why we're doing this thing because, for all practical purposes, there is no good reason to throw one's self on the "Home to the World's Worst Weather" - is there?!

  1. Kma,

I can't wait to hear your stories. What a beautiful backyard to play in. If you need a great b&b to stay in try the Covered Bridge in Glen. Dan and Nancy are awesome and make great breakfasts.
